Emotional Wellness

According to the National Institute of Health, “Emotional Wellness” is defined as the ability to successfully handle life’s stresses and adapt to change and difficult times” (1).

The emotional health of Parents and Caregivers directly impact how they provide stability, nurture and support children, youth, and young adults. The American Academy of Pediatrics notes in their emotional wellness site that “Children need to realize that the world is a better place because they are in it. Understanding the importance of personal contribution can serve as a source of purpose and motivation” (2).

As you focus on keeping your body healthy it is equally important to address the health of your mind and spirit as well. How you feel can affect your ability to conduct everyday activities, achieve your goals, develop healthy relationships, manage your finances, and your overall spiritual and mental health. Each year it is recommended that we schedule an annual physical wellness check-up. You need to also schedule an annual emotional wellness check-up. By including an annual emotional wellness check-up, you can survey any issues that not only impact your physical health but most importantly prevent you from flourishing.
